Wang Wang was a stray mother dog living in Jieyang, Guangdong, China. Local residents described her as gentle, friendly, and trusting of people. She had recently given birth to three puppies and cared for them near the area where she lived, and had become well known and loved in the community — neighbors regularly fed and looked after her.
On June 28, 2026, Wang Wang and her puppies were attacked by several boys, all reportedly under the age of 14. According to multiple reports, the puppies were killed, and Wang Wang stayed with them instead of fleeing.
The attackers recorded the abuse and shared the video online, which led to widespread public outrage around the world. Many people called for stronger animal welfare protections, noting that China does not have a comprehensive national animal cruelty law. Reports indicate the minors involved were sent to corrective education rather than facing criminal prosecution, which fueled further debate and petitions for legal reform.
In the weeks that followed, #JusticeForWangWang spread across social media, and memorials and awareness campaigns appeared in multiple cities around the world — including here in the Philippines.
